Island Photographers
One of the highlights of the past eighteen months has been my involvement with Island Photographers, an artist-led group raising awareness, understanding and engagement with contemporary photography within Ireland. In a world that’s full of ever-increasing divisions it feels really good to be helping to build any kind of community. We’ve been running informal workshops and talks to help further develop photography’s pivotal role within Irish visual culture, and there appears to be a substantial appetite for these events amongst a growing group. Last night’s talks from Barbara Diener, Alan Phelan and Daragh Soden in the United Arts Club were a great success, and part of my contribution was to take some behind-the-scenes shots that you can see below. If you’re interested in contemporary Irish photography, please feel free to sign up to the Island Photographers mailing list to hear about upcoming events.
